In a report, “Opposition MPs submit notice seeking removal of LS Speaker” (Inside pages, February 11), a sentence was: “Under Article 94C of the Constitution, the Speaker can be removed from office by resolution passed by the House through a simple majority.” The procedure to remove the Speaker is through effective majority, which is absolute majority of the effective strength of the House (total strength minus the number of vacant seats). Article 94(C) says: “may be removed from his office by a resolution of the House of the People by a majority of the then members of the House....”
