India and Israel on Thursday (February 26, 2026) elevated their “time-tested” relationship to a special strategic partnership and agreed to soon firm up a “mutually beneficial” free trade deal even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly backed the Gaza peace initiative.

Both the countries signed multiple agreements and MoUs across multiple sectors covering AI, cybersecurity, education and other sectors during Modi’s ongoing two-day State visit to the country. “An agreement has been reached for the use of UPI in Israel,” he added.

Earlier, Mr. Modi held “fruitful and wide-ranging” talks with Israeli President Issac Herzog. The Israel’s President said in a post on X, “The people of Israel and India are stronger together. The people of Israel and India are stronger together. The people of India and Israel are more empowered together.”
