Former fire service officer sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment in 2011 case

The case was tried before the Principal District and Sessions Court in Kancheepuram

A Principal District and Sessions Court in Kancheepuram has convicted and sentenced a former fire department official to three years of rigorous imprisonment for accepting a bribe of ₹3,000 in 2011.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), D. Selvaraj of Kancheepuram had planned to start an enterprise named Shakthi Garments. On July 7, 2011, he met then Assistant District Fire Officer A. Subramani at the Divisional Fire and Rescue Services office and submitted an application seeking a fire safety certificate for his firm.
