No shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene, ATF or fuel oil: Hardeep Puri

Mr. Puri says that the crude oil supply position of India is secured. “Before the crisis, approximately 45% of India’s crude imports transited through the Hormuz route. Thanks to the honourable Prime Minister’s outstanding diplomatic outreach and goodwill, India has secured good volume that exceeds what the disrupted Strait of Hormuz could’ve delivered in the same period. Non-Hormuz sourcing has risen to approximately 70% of crude imports. India sources crude from 40 countries as against 27 in 2006 and 2007,” Mr. Puri says.

“There is no shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene, ATF or fuel oil. The availability of petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, kerosene and fuel oil is fully assured... supply chains for these products are functioning normally,” he says.

All this while, Opposition is sloganeering and protesting against Mr. Puri’s remarks. Chants of “Epstein, Epstein” could be heard in the House.

Mr. Puri further details other measures and says this is not the time for “rumour-mongering”.

Ruckus in Lok Sabha after Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Hardeep Puri

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi speaks in Lok Sabha during the discussion Supplementary Demands for Grants. He slams the government, asking why is it allowing the U.S. to decide who India buys oil and gas from.

“... whether our relationship with different oil suppliers can be decided by us, this is what has been battered. And this is a very puzzling fact why a nation the size of India would allow any other nation, the President of another nation, to give us permission to buy Russian oil... And I have figured the puzzle out. And the puzzle is about compromise,” he says.

Mr. Gandhi now points to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and says Mr. Puri has himself said that he was a “friend” of sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein and goes on to show a paper document, alleging Mr. Puri’s daughter has received money from billionaire George Soros.

Treasury Benches protest these remarks. Speaker Om Birla says Mr. Gandhi must speak only pertaining to the notice that he has submitted and this is not how the House will proceed. “You either speak on the matter in your notice or if you want to speak on this then give another notice,” Mr. Birla says. Opposition members demand that Mr. Gandhi be allowed to speak further.

Mr. Puri now raises to speak on the steps taken by the Centre regarding the fuel crisis due to the West Asia war. Opposition resorts to loud sloganeering and protests within the House.
