Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday (March 13, 2026) asserted that the new NDA government in the State will continue to function under the guidance of Nitish Kumar, who is slated to relinquish the chief minister's post after being elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Choudhary, a senior BJP leader, made the remarks in Saharsa district while accompanying Kumar during the 'Samridhi Yatra'.

Showering praise on the State's longest-serving Chief Minister, Mr. Choudhary said, "Bihar owes a lot to Nitish Kumar, who took charge shortly after the creation of Jharkhand, which had deprived the State of more than 80% of its revenue." He said the State's budget was only a few thousand crores when Kumar first assumed office.

"It is a testament to his financial management that the latest budget exceeded ₹3 lakh crore," Mr. Choudhary said.

"The standard of living has improved substantially. Earlier, the State had only about 17 lakh power consumers. Today, the number has crossed 2.17 crore," he added.

Mr. Choudhary, whose name is also doing the rounds as a possible contender for the chief minister's post if the BJP leads the next government, said the NDA remains indebted to Kumar's legacy.

"Bihar has progressed significantly under Nitish Kumar's leadership, and the new NDA government will continue to work under his guidance," he said.
