SUCI(C) seeks permanent solution to waste management issues in Dharwad

Updated - March 16, 2026 06:52 pm IST - Belagavi

Members of the Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist (SUCI-C) have demanded a permanent solution to problems associated with waste management in Dharwad, including drainage and improper garbage disposal.

Activists said that the main drainage in Jannat Nagar is filled with garbage, as waste disposal is not being carried out properly.

“Due to stagnant water in the drain, the walls of houses located on both sides of the drain have become damp and water is seeping from the ground. Moreover, during heavy rain, water flows back through the drains and enters houses through bathrooms, making it extremely difficult for residents to live there,” they said.

“Similarly, smoke coming out of the waste processing plant located near Jannat Nagar is causing health problems for residents of the entire area. Therefore, they demanded that the main drain be cleaned immediately so that water can flow freely,” they said and added that it should also be cleaned regularly.

They suggested that slabs be installed over drains to prevent people from dumping garbage into them. Fogging should be carried out regularly to control mosquitoes, they said and added that a scientific solution should be found to address the issues of the waste processing plant.

A memorandum was submitted to Zonal Commissioner Shankar Patil who said that he will visit Jannat Nagar and take steps to resolve the issues.

SUCI(C) leaders Bhavanishankar Gowda, members Mumtaz Magalani, Jamuna Kalal, Reshma Sheikh, Mahbubi Sheikh, Shanur Lalamiya and Shirin Banu, among others, were present.
