T.N. Assembly election 2026: Ramanathapuram DEO suspends grievance meetings, sets cash carrying limits

Following enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Tamil Nadu from Sunday, District Election Officers in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga has put into effect certain rules and regulations including suspension of the weekly grievance redress meeting.

As per the Ramanathapuram DEO Simranjeet Singh Kahlon’s press statement, in the four Assembly Constituencies in Ramanathapuram District - Paramakudi (Reserved), Tiruvadanai, Ramanathapuram, and Mudukulathur - a total of 72 surveillance teams have been formed. This would include 12 Flying Squads and 12 Static Surveillance Teams (3 teams per constituency) operating 24 hours a day.

He further added that cash amounts exceeding ₹50,000 carried by public without proper supporting documents would be seized by the surveillance teams. Items valued at over ₹10,000 carried without proper receipts would also be seized.

Election Control Room at the Ramanathapuram District Collectorate would be operational 24/7starting from Sunday (March 15).

Members of the public and political party representatives can contact the designated telephone numbers to report doubts, grievances, or violations of the MCC. Furthermore, complaints regarding code violations can also be registered through the cVIGIL mobile application/website.

It was also informed that all public meetings, including the weekly public grievance redress day meeting held every Monday under the chairmanship of District Collector, as well as other public contact camps and special camps, would remain suspended until the MCC is withdrawn.

Mr. Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, stated in a press release that necessary arrangements have been made for the public to submit their grievance petitions in a designated petition box located on the ground floor of New District Collectorate complex.
