A 40-year-old woman allegedly tried to end her life after attacking her two children with a knife at Thukkapuram village in Bhongir mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district early on Sunday (March 15).

The woman, B. Neelima, allegedly slit the throat of her 14-year-old daughter and assaulted her 12-year-old son. While the girl succumbed to injuries, the boy managed to run out of the house shouting for help, drawing the attention of neighbours who rushed to the spot. He also sustained injuries in the attack.

Police said Neelima later allegedly attempted suicide. Residents forced open the door and rescued her.

According to relatives, Neelima had been undergoing treatment for mental health issues and was known to display unusual behaviour at times.

Police said she had married Narender Reddy, a native of Jainapally in Bibinagar mandal, about 16 years ago. She had come to her parents’ house in Thukkapuram along with her two children on March 14 and the incident occurred during the early hours of the following day.
