LPG tanker Shivalik reaches Gujarat’s Mundra Port after crossing Strait of Hormuz

Special Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, said that the Vessel Jag Laadki, carrying 81,000 metrics tonnes of Murban crude oil, is safely enroute to India; he said it would reach to Mundra Port on March 17.

Indian LPG carrier ‘Shivalik’, carrying about 46,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, reached Mundra Port in Gujarat on Monday (March 16, 2026) evening.

The carrier arrived at the port after safely transiting out of the Strait of Hormuz late last night/early this morning.

Earlier on Monday (March 16, 2026), addressing the Inter Ministerial briefing on Recent Developments in West Asia in New Delhi, Special Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, said that the LPG tanker Shivalik expected to reach Mundra port by 5 p.m. on Monday (March 16).

Mr. Sinha added that Vessel Jag Laadki, carrying about 80,800 tonnes of Murban crude, is safely enroute to India. He said it would reach to Mundra Port on Tuesday (March 17, 2026).

Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar has hailed ​direct talks with Iran as the most effective way ‌to restart shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, ​in an interview with the Financial ⁠Times published on Sunday (March 15, 2026). Mr. Jaishankar added that there was no “blanket arrangement” for Indian-flagged ships and that Iran had not received anything in exchange.

MEA did not discuss in any bilateral seating about utilising U.S. warships to ferry Indian ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, said Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
